Within hours of taking office, President Joe Biden undid some of Donald Trump s most controversial immigration policies and sparked cautious hope that millions living in the shadows could one day get legal status in the US.
Scribbled signatures from his pen on Wednesday lifted an entry ban for people from many majority Muslim nations and halted construction of Trump s border wall with Mexico, heartening immigration defenders left reeling by four years of America First nationalism.
Yet advocates see new battles ahead, including whether lawmakers can finally overhaul the nation s immigration system which has been branded as broken with some 11 million undocumented people living in limbo.
MANILA, Philippines (AP): A powerful earthquake shook parts of the southern Philippines on Thursday night, but authorities said it was too deep to cause major damage and no tsunami warning was issued.
The quake measured magnitude 7.0 and was located 95.8 kilometres (60 miles) below the sea and about 210 kilometres (130 miles) southeast of Pondaguitan in Davao Occidental province, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
In Davao city, President Rodrigo Duterte’s hometown, some residents ran out of their houses as the ground shook and power cables and business signs swayed, but there were no reports of damage or injuries. Duterte was in the presidential palace complex in Manila.

ISLAMABAD: The Chief Commissioner Office issued notifications, regarding massive reshuffling and huge transfer posting in top slot of police department of the Islamabad Capital Territory on Wednesday.
According to the notifications, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Waqaruddin Syed (PSP Officer of Grade-20) has been appointed as DIG Security Division, while, Afzaal Ahmad Kausar (Grade-20 PSP officer) signed up as DIG (Operations), replacing Waqaruddin Syed.
The outgoing officer served in the ICT Police with integrity, conviction, dignity and professional approach. The newly appointed DIG (Operations) enjoyed remarkable reputation during his police service and earned good name during his career.
